Villa Carolina. A view on Pliny's land.

Holiday Farm House between Umbria and Tuscany

A 'Hidden treasure' between Umbria and Tuscany not far from the Marche and Romagna regions.

Villa Carolina is the new top quality holiday farm house situated in panoramic position (600 mt above sea level) in the heart of the Upper Tiber Valley on the border between Umbria and Tuscany.

The Upper Tiber Valley was once part of the Lake Trasimeno basin. The area eventually dried out leaving fertile lands for the neighbouring peoples and the Etruscans to inhabit. When the Romans arrived they built the Via Major (the Main Road) that ended in Ravenna passing through Rimini. Pliny the Younger spent his summer holidays here and in his works described it as "the most beautiful natural amphitheatre".

The shape of the area - a valley surrounded by hills - has made the Valley inaccessible and away from the main road system. Many different people have lived here leaving behind traces of their passage: fossils and the ruins of Pliny's villa, Early Christian churches, Lombard settlements, castles, medieval towns, villas of the XVI and XVII centuries, Romanesque churches, Franciscan hermitages, small towns perched up on hills such as Anghiari, Monterchi, Citerna, Montone, Monte S.Maria Tiberina, Caprese Michelangelo, fortresses such as the Medicea in Sansepolcro, castles such as 'Montauto' and 'Bufalini' in San Giustino .

In such wonders of Nature, marked by time and art and close to important and famous cities (Arezzo, Siena, Florence, Assisi, Cortona, Perugia, Gubbio, Urbino, Cittą di Castello) the dream of two generations is born: Villa Carolina.
